There's something about that phrase that resonates deep in me, an admission that ultimately my sins really are insane in a way. I have found myself waking sometimes wondering, "What was I thinking?" This is just another way of coming to my senses.
There is a comfort in realizing this insanity. Sin can grip so hard and so tightly that when God shines his light on our hearts, it's difficult to believe how foolish we've been.
It is remarkable to me how freighted that phrase is with repentance and the poignant return to our Father who runs to meet us with open arms. It is comforting to be reminded, as Keller does so well in The Prodigal God, that we have an older brother who seeks after us to bring us Home.
